The next day we piled into a truck with a bunch of local people and went up into the hills.

This is a cauliflower farm. People told us a story of one farm where the farmers were seen becoming unusually rich unusually fast, just selling cauliflower. They built a new house and had new cars and everything else... Naturally this aroused a lot of interest and suspicion. It was soon discovered that they were using the cauliflower to smuggle drugs across and out of the country. When the cauliflower was young, they put the drugs in the middle of the flower, which subsequently grew around it, encasing it perfectly. True or not, it makes a great story.

Next we came to a famous temple in the hills.

The gong there can make a really strange, high-pitched vibration like a signal from an alien planet if you rub it (yes, rub it, not hit it) with your hands just the right way. Some people can do it, some can't. All of our students could do it. Hurray!

Going up to the temple.

This temple building has no walls, just posts. Under the roof is an impression preserved in concrete that is supposed to be a Buddha footprint. Nobody in our group seemed to believe it. There are long sticks, and some people claim that if you put a rubber band on it, it will sometimes move down the stick by way of some sort of, uh... spectral force? None of our rubber bands moved, needless to say.
